I was somewhat disappointed with this recipe later seeing all of the rave reviews. I decorate cakes for a side job and I had a customer who wanted a really good homemade yellow cake for her husband's birthday. I don't get a asking for a yellow cake very often so I went looking for a recipe and found this i. I made 1 for me to try at the same time I made the one to decorate. I did non overbake the cake, followed the directions equally is and it came out dry, heavy and very crumbly. The flavor was off-white but the texture was awful. I ended up brushing the customer'southward cake with a vanilla uncomplicated syrup and blanket it with a coat earlier icing it in hopes it would taste better and hold up better. I was hoping for a fluffy, tasty cake but this was not information technology. I will not make this over again.

I fabricated this cake for my son's 3rd birthday. As others have said, information technology is very dense and heavy. It was also very moist and tasted great. Everyone at the party loved it. I did have to broil information technology for almost twice equally long as recommended in the recipe but it was worth the await. I volition definitely brand information technology once again for a friend'due south birthday in a few weeks time.

I ran late and needed to bake a block just every bit the guests were arriving, so had to make shortcuts. I softened the butter in the microwave and mixed the eggs in without separating them and the cake still turned out bang-up! I did take to lower the oven temperature to 300 after xv mins though, since I saw that the cake was browning too much on top and was nonetheless undone inside (convection air oven). It besides make a huge cake and would have overflowed had I not used as big a cake pan every bit I did. I sifted cocoa powder over it (quick and less fattening than frosting and anyway the cake was all the same warm and would've melted whatsoever frosting!) and it looked elegant. The guests loved it! Very buttery smooth and merely equally delicious the next day after refridgeration. Great recipe since it uses basic ingredients on hand that one could just throw in i go. This is a keeper!!!

This cake came out beautifully, but I only gave information technology 4 stars because I had to brand a lot of adjustments. First of all, make sure to soften the butter before you mix it. This makes it easier to work with and helps melt the sugar. Secondly, I would decrease the amount of sugar in this recipe past almost half a cup because information technology turned out very sweet. Thirdly, I had to add an extra half cup of milk to the recipe to shine out the batter. And lastly, it was necessary for me to increase the cooking time by an extra xx minutes before information technology was done. However, with all of those adjustments, the cake turned out very moist, fluffy and sweet. I volition definitely make this once again!

This is the all-time altogether cake in the world and I have fabricated a lot of cakes. Use real butter if you tin can! It rises beautifully and is of perfect texture. I used a cream chees icing. One viii oz. block cream cheese, 1/two loving cup marg. 1tsp. vanilla and nearly 4 cups icing sugar. YUMMY!! Thanks for the recipe. Susan from Nova Scotia, Canada

This yr I wanted to make my g daughters birthday block and I used this recipe. I must say information technology was very succulent. I added my own frosting but overall I had enough cake to feed everyone at the party and the best role of it was that they all idea I brought it from a bakery. They ate all of the cake the aforementioned night so two days later I made another one.
06/06/2006
I don't know why some others say it is packy. If you follow the recipe to the letter, it comes out swell. Exist certain you are sifting your flour/baking powder mixture, and fluffing your egg whites. Cheers for the keeper!!
08/04/2001
A good basic recipe. It tasted skilful.
06/19/2007
love the block! instead of 3 9 inch pans i used two and double deckered the cake :)
02/19/2006
great cake. I used it to make my son'due south birthday railroad train cake, inside a Wilton train pan. When I cut off the extra from the top and tried it, it tasted bully! I did modify it a bit though, I used almond extract instead of vanilla, and I used buttermilk instead of milk. great recipe!!!
eleven/18/2001
I fabricated this cake for my daughter'southward birthday. Information technology was dry but information technology didn't taste as well bad. I was afraid that it might. It came out of the oven smelling similar an omlet. I had high hopes because of the other reviews but I was then disappointed. I had lots of people at the party who I'one thousand afraid matter I'thousand a bad cook now. At least the icing I made to get on it fabricated it taste better. I won't make it again.
06/eighteen/2010
Hey guys, this is a good recipe....I take a business organization and a client was looking for a white/yellow block base of operations with strawberry filling and a buttercream frosting. THIS IS It!!! This cake reminds me a lot of some other coconut block I make that I get lots of rave reviews for. This will be the cake I utilise for children's parties and adults besides!! Give thanks yous Ballad for the recipe!
04/11/2012
This altogether block is absolute perfection... first time to make it, followed the directions exactly. I was able to make a 2-tier cake with this recipe (i 10" circular & one 8" round). Cooked 45 mins. convection oven (the 8" was done at 35 mins). I covered the cake with sliced fresh strawberries (mixed strawberries in organic yogurt), bananas, kiwi and spread melted chocolate only on outside of bottom layer. The cake itself was not too sugariness, and then the toppings I had added complimented it perfectly that everyone at the BDay party wanted 2nds. (please see my photo)
08/23/2005
This cake was delicious- a prissy, slightly dense, moist block. It was actually my first layer cake (so I followed all steps carefully), and it baked very well. I fabricated it with Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting (as well submitted by Carol)- yum. I will definitely exist making it again!
eleven/25/2009
Tried this recipe considering our town baker stopped making cakes on weekends, my daughter turned one on a Sunday and I was not going to make a box block for her 1st birthday. I must say I was scared to death, my family can be harsh and anybody has as opinion. Started the cake on the morning of the party, set it out to cool. My sister recommended injecting it with rasberry preserves, nosotros made a basic butter cream icing, layered information technology with icing and thin layer of rasberry preserves. 3 layers in all. sprinkled white chocolate over the height. We put pink decorative icing on the acme and a cute pink candle. I was so nervous when nosotros sang Happy Altogether and we cut the cake. Anybody started to compliment me, and I was dubbed the official altogether block maker from at present on. My husband said that the cake made our little one's special day fifty-fifty improve. Thanks for posting the recipe that made my husband proud of me and my efforts. I feel bad that I had never attempted making a block for our 16yr old all these years. If yous need a slap-up tasting block try this recipe. Highly recommend it.
03/02/2010
I used this recipe each week while attending a block decorating form and it turned out great each time. The hush-hush is folding in those hard egg white before baking- I noticed a big change when I missed that step.
03/17/2001
I actually needed this recipe to work since I'd promised to brand my friend a birthday block and I hadn't made 1 from scracth in years - and information technology didn't disappoint! I used cocky-raising flour instead of manifestly flour (I call back that'due south what's mean past all-purpose?) and caster sugar because I am so bad at mixing out lumps... The result was a dream. It was the lightest cake I've ever tasted and had a beautiful gustatory modality to it. Everyone loved the cake and asked for the recipe, then I pointed them towards this 1. Thanks a lot! Information technology was divine.
04/02/2003
This recipe did not work for me. It smelled like an omelette and tasted like flour. It had the consistancy of a pound block and was very dry. I followed the directions precisely. I will not use this ane over again
04/09/2012
This cake is really good. I utilize the "Wedding Cake Frosting" recipe for this cake. Sometimes I use almond extract instead of the vanilla.
12/21/2004
I fabricated this for my blood brother'due south birthday yesterday and topped information technology with Chocolate Frosting I, also on this site. It was great! My whole family loved information technology, one person maxim "This is definately better than boxed cake!" I'thou non a fantastic bakery, I tin acknowledge it, but this was easy enough for me. It was worth the extra work of whipping the egg whites considering it fabricated the cake nice and moist. And yeah, it does smell similar an omelet coming out of the oven as others have mentioned, but it does NOT taste like one!
03/20/2002
I wouldn't suggest it for a kids birthday cake as information technology is a little to eggy and not actually sugariness enough for a children's birtday cake. Overall, this was a pretty yummy dessert!
10/12/2011
Literally tasted like a shop-bought birthday block, just fluffier and lighter. Really good recipe for a basic piece of cake to make altogether cake.
05/11/2005
Delicious! I use this all the time now for family birthdays, alternating with the Blackness Magic Cake, also on this site. Exist sure to follow directions as far as calculation the beaten egg whites separately. I sometimes substitute 1 cup of canned coconut milk for the milk, and use the frosting from Kokosnoot Cake II from this site, too using kokosnoot milk in place of regular milk. Thanks, Ballad, for this recipe!
ten/07/2010
After reading the reviews I decided to give this block a try for my daughters 18th birthday. I did cut down on the sugar by 1/2 a cup and increased the milk by one/3 cup approx. I too had to increase the cooking time past 20-25 minutes. The end effect was a light yet house, fluffy textured evenly colored sponge. I volition def. keep this recipe.
03/04/2011
not bad; very sugariness though, depends on your personal taste
01/03/2011
This was delicious. I fabricated information technology using vegan substitutions and it nonetheless turned out fantastic. It is dense, and it did take nigh twice the baking time as recommended (nearly 50 min to an hour) simply it was moist and exactly what I wanted. I used butterscotch flavoring in the cake for a little extra something and almond flavoring in my frosting.
02/02/2003
The start time I made this, it came out very dumbo. I had listened to a reviewer who said you don't take to bother separating the eggs. This time around I followed the directions, and it came out beautifully. Lite and moist with a swell texture. I added a second tsp. of vanilla, and it had a wonderful flavor. This is my new favorite xanthous cake recipe. Thanks!
02/04/2011
Turned out good...very heavy merely skillful, sweet and pretty. Similar taste to pound cake. Worked for making a princess cake for my four yr old.
09/14/2003
I similar this recipe for a birthday cake and information technology tastes great! If you arrive properly, it is lite, soft with texture resembling a chiffon cake. I too tried information technology on as cupcakes, changed the flavor to cheese and added ane cup of grated cheddar cheese and I had cheese cupcakes. I likewise tried it with cinnamon pulverisation and I had cinnnamon cupcakes. All of these I served during my daughter'south birthday party and anybody loved it! Thanks Carol.
12/21/2006
This cake was great. Imade it for my brothers birthday with my chocolate crean cheese frosting and every body loved information technology.
07/03/2011
I made this cake in a 9x13. I made it exactly the manner it read except a added simply a small amount (didn't measure) of milk at the cease because the concoction was REALLY thick. The only thing that I noticed was that after 30 minutes at 350 the pocketknife came out covered in raw batter. The cake was quite dark at the signal and so I turned the oven down to 300 and cooked another 10 minutes. Came out of the pan pretty well. I haven't had a slice yet simply the crumbs were tasty and my 2 twelvemonth old son pinched a chunk out of itand wanted more more than more! This cake does seem very dense just I don't know why that would be a bad matter.
01/06/2003
very moist. I make a three layer cake with vanilla frosting. I made information technology a week in accelerate and froze it and information technology was wonderful. will utilize again!
eleven/29/2005
I used this recipe to brand cupcakes for my daughter's grade and they turned out delicious. I had many parents and teachers tell me how adept they were. Thanks for a delicious, made from scratch, cake recipe.
05/27/2007
This is a really expert cake mix. I use it for my cake business. I am so glad that I found it. Cheers for sharing it.
eleven/07/2001
I made this cake for my son´s altogether and he and his friends loved information technology. Excellent recipe. The block is low-cal and fluffy, goes cracking with the Lady Baltimore Frosting, likewise from this site.
03/18/2009
I made this at the last minute this evening every bit a surprise for my husband's birthday and it turned out great!!! I actually cutting the recipe in half to make one medium sized cake and I still had to bake it for a proficient 35 minutes, but in the stop it was perfect, calorie-free just moist... I topped it with a simple buttercream icing and end result=hubby ate iii pieces :)
02/14/2011
I made this block for my hubby, I just wanted something to put on the table for Valentine'due south. I read the reviews but made the recepie as is. It was Delicious. My hubby LOVED Information technology. I don't recall it came out dense considering I made it exactly similar the recepie. I did still did only half of ingredients since it was but for 2 but seriously it was pretty big, it could take been for 10 people having big pieces! So, plan for that, information technology can overflow like other reviewers said. It rose beautifully, very fluffy. Try it with italian meringue, yuuummmm!
01/03/2006
Extremely piece of cake to make, and it tastes excellant! I had to cook information technology a fleck longer then required.
02/23/2009
Followed exactly and information technology turned out just like I idea it would.
06/25/2007
Tastes a little buttery only it's light and exactly what I was looking for to make a birthday block. I used some spreadable fruit (raspberry) betwixt the layers and poured the "Pro-Ganache" over it (recipe from this site - that is SOOO practiced!) and decorated with fresh raspberries. Unproblematic and awesome!!
11/29/2005
I used this recipe to make cupcakes for my daughter's class and they turned out delicious. I had many parents and teachers tell me how skillful they were. Cheers for a delicious, made from scratch, cake recipe.
08/20/2009
This is not a proficient cake. Information technology is very dry.
03/05/2004
I made this for my mum's birthday, and had many compliments about it! It was beautiful spread with fresh whipped cream and topped with sliced strawberries and pansies. Next time I'd make ii layers, and sandwich them together with raspberry jam or cooled custard.
08/17/2001
I LOVED this cake! My boyfriend 5th Graders loved information technology likewise and theyn asked me to broil it again and again! I also broiled it for my family unit and they loved it besides. I will always utilise this recipe to bake any sort of block.
04/08/2000
WOW - this cake is then good!
12/24/2007
Amazing cake!! Fabricated three round 8" cakes, and added carmine nutrient coloring to the middle layer to brand it pink, also equally swirled in a scrap of dry out cocoa, so completely copied some other reviewer by using raspberry preserves (mixed with crushed, frozen raspberries) betwixt each of the layers, icing it with the pro ganache from this site, and and then using raspberries on top and to decorate the base. It turned out VERY practiced! The cake wasn't too heavy/sweet, but was balanced nicely with the fruit, and the whole thing was delicious. And, although people say this all the time on this site (haha), my sis actually said, "This could be store-bought," then corrected herself and said it was better than a store-bought cake! It was for my mom's birthday and she loved it =).
04/28/2012
Made for my son'due south bday. Fabricated with xylitol and made at altitude and it came out great! Tastes like a real bakery cake! Moist and succulent.
10/02/2010
I made it for my friend'south birthday. It came out very watery notwithstanding. I wonder what i did incorrect...
06/01/2014
great recipe!!! easy to make!!!
01/08/2016
it's a good cake only reminds me of the flavor of pancakes.
02/ten/2010
This came out delicious! Anybody commented that it tasted similar a delicious nuptials block! Definitely worth the attempt!
05/23/2010
Edible, but BARELY. Brick-like comes to mind. Very heavy and dense. It'd be more like a bread than a cake, if breads were even this heavy. Cooking time per recipe instructions is waaaaay off. At 35 minutes, the concoction was nonetheless soupy. I had to double the time. Lesson learned the hard mode with this recipe... e'er examination a recipe earlier serving at a function. :(
11/23/2010
Succulent and dense. Solid cake that makes for the yummiest cake I've Always had. Used ALMOND season instead of vanilla.
08/xviii/2010
The cake was good. I have non made a block in years and I had fun making this i. I did what other people did and used almond and buttermilk. I also used an Elmo pan so I had to double the cooking time too. The cake is a thicker cake and is sweet as others say. I also loved eating the edges I cut off. They were very good warm. It was very easy to decorate. It seems the cake had a good "chaff" all over elmos face. I iced it with pretubed icing. It looked awesome. I refrigerated it for the side by side day....we pretty much ate it straight from the fridge and then I think the cake was too common cold northward the icing was harder than I'd like. For the side by side birthday party I would do a lighter batter..this one was proficient tho but not good for birthdays. I think doing something with strawberries would be perfect for this recipe. Will do again and would propose to others just make a practice 1 and then I understand the taste. Also adding a filling would exist so good!
12/25/2012
OH Wow!! This cake is great! Very TASTY,SWEET and had a good density. Close to a pound block kind of dumbo. I frosted information technology just with Absurd Whip and made a unproblematic strawberry sauce but it didn't need it at all, altho tasted great together! Definitely a keeper for altogether cakes or someday you want a special and very simple cake :)
04/09/2001
Very stable and tasty. Mine took a bit longer to melt than the fourth dimension stated. Information technology was worth the extra effort to whip the egg whites. The cake rose very nicely and made a lovely birthday cake.
04/eighteen/2000
This block is tasty and great if you're going to cut information technology out to form a pattern to friction match your birthday party theme. My blood brother ate just near the whole affair in i sitting!
11/03/2013
This is a groovy cake recipe! We made cupcakes, equally that is what my daughter wanted for her altogether. Nosotros added colored sprinkles for confetti cupcakes. The texture is lovely - similar to a cake mix but without disintegrating, equally I notice is the case with cakes fabricated from mix. As for the egg smell and taste that other reviewers mentioned, I didn't observe that at all. I did, however, employ a generous amount of quality vanilla. My suggestion to those who found it nether-cooked in the middle, is to reduce temperature down to approximately 323 C for a few extra minutes (after the initial cooking fourth dimension.) This allows the eye to fully cook without browning the bottom and edges. (I oftentimes exercise this with banana loaves, as well.) This is my new get-to recipe for birthday cakes!
09/xvi/2006
I am very Disapointed in this block. It came out tasting similar flour. I would not recomend this recipe.
04/fourteen/2010
Merely similar some of the other reviewers I found this cake to be very dumbo and the recipe a bit difficult to piece of work with. I followed the recipe to the alphabetic character but found the batter quite thick earlier folding in the whites so I added a lot (1/two C +) more milk as others suggested. I'm giving information technology 3 stars considering the gustation was good enough for me to give the recipe some other try.
08/17/2006
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE Baked THIS CAKE. Starting time Fourth dimension IT MUST HAVE WEIGHED l LBS. AND It WAS NOT A SUCCESS.THIS WAS Too MY Get-go CAKE FROM SCRATCH I Ever BAKED AND I KINDA PACKED THE FLOUR INTO THE MEASURING Loving cup :) THIS TIME IT WAS MUCH, MUCH BETTER. IT WAS Only Correct EXCEPT I CANT EVER GET It TO BAKE Correct..I Broiled IT FOR l MINS. AT 350. THE Centre STARTED TO Scissure AND THE EDGES WERE VERY Dark-brown. And then THE CAKE IS KIND OF Dry NOW...BUT IT TASTES SOOOO GOOD. I WILL EAT IT Just THE REST OF THE Family unit Volition PRETEND TO Be CHOKING ON IT CAUSE ITS DRY.
03/19/2010
This is now our official altogether cake recipe! So yummy delish! It is so buttery and is not besides sweet just perfect. It is so light and fluffy I am not sure why others said it was heavy. Someone said it was dry and crumbly, all I can retrieve of is that they whipped the eggwhites as well much. This recipe makes dandy cupcakes too! When I fabricated it the block rose upwards just as it was cooling savage inward a petty fleck, simply that did not effect the sense of taste. Heavenly!
05/12/2007
THIS Block IS SOOO YUMMMY I LOVVVEEE IT TRUST ME You Want TO MAKE THIS Block
10/19/2000
I had to rate this at the top for each category, because for a "from scratch" cake, this is quick and like shooting fish in a barrel -- Betty Crocker can't match information technology. If you follow the instructions and don't overwhip the egg whites (should exist simply able to stand up up on the cease of the beaters, only shouldn't resemble the early stages of styrofoam (!). I made this in 3 nine-in. layers and used my ain "throw-together" buttercream icing. I made it two weeks before my daughter'due south second birthday to test it and it passed -- she ate a big piece (she doesn't eat sweets, generally) and the party guests gave generous compliments. This is THE Only yellow cake recipe for me.
04/20/2008
This is my offset homemade birthday cake. I cut the recipe in half to make a smaller cake, and used one/2c saccharide and 1/2c splenda then followed the rest of the recipe exactly. Put 'Quick Fudge Icing' on superlative, IT TURNED OUT WONDERFUL!
02/04/2011
This is the All-time cake. I've been making it for years!!!
02/26/2012
I could swear I followed the recipe exactly, so who knows what went incorrect.
03/12/2004
I`ve made this recipe dozens of times with excellent results. Whether it`s cupcakes for little ones or birthday block for seniors, all accept raved nearly it. Equally for those reviewers who didn`t like, let them consume other cake:)
12/26/2006
This block was alright! It dries out very quickly though even though I was keeping it sealed in a cake pan. It was also very crumbly and I followed the directions exactly. How can I keep it moist the adjacent time I make it?
05/25/2010
This recipe was awesomeeeeeeeee!!! I used it for my son´s birthday cake in a Wilton Elmo pan and turned out perfect. I did cook information technology longer though. No one believed me that it was a bootleg block. I made cup cakes and the batter was great for that too. Definitely a keeper.
04/19/2011
This cake is very crumbly almost like cornbread. I like dumbo cakes only this one was too crumbly and dry. My guest thought it was strange for a block to be falling autonomously the way it did
03/20/2011
Admittedly amazing! I fabricated this for my female parent's altogether party and everyone raved most information technology!
11/xiv/2009
I do non consider myself an expert baker, just my girl warmed my eye when she asked me to broil her 5th Birthday block myself. I was looking for an easy cake recipe. This block was like shooting fish in a barrel to make & had a dandy sense of taste-I received lots of compliments on it! I used the recipe for the wedding block icing from this website & just added water until I got a spreading consistency that I liked.
03/24/2010
This is a great recipe. I fabricated two batches for my son's second birthday. 1 was in a 9x13 pan and the other in a Wilton 3-D Cruiser cake pan, both came out great, though the one in the Wilton pan took about xxx minutes longer in the oven. The only change I made was to add about a half teaspoon of almond extract to each cake. Succulent! Will make over again.
05/10/2000
This is i of the best cakes E'er. It was perfect for decorating (Wilton-style) and the gustatory modality was out of this globe. I used this cake for a Babe Shower at piece of work and everyone loved it.
06/08/2008
very like shooting fish in a barrel to follow recipe. i liked the block, but i found the texture to be somewhat strange. all in all it was pretty proficient.
05/28/2007
True it was heavy and pretty dry, only it was likewise tasty and served very well the purpose I needed it for. I wouldn't use this recipe for just any occasion, only in need of a block sturdy plenty to support heavy fillings and decorations: jelly layers, buttercream icing, marzipan embrace and decorations, etc... information technology was great.
05/26/2001
I made this cake for my sons altogether and it was amazing. Since I used fresh vanilla instaed of the extract it actually tastes similar Vanilla Ice-CREAM! Kids LOVED Information technology! Give thanks you for posting it. Also it didn't practice the separate egg thing and information technology still turned out wonderful
03/29/2004
Hands down, this recipe beats a store bought cake mix by a mile! I have never prepared a "from scratch" cake before, simply subsequently having "Happy Birthday Cake," I'll probably never buy a store bought cake mix again. Though this recipe was more dense than a store bought mix, I prefer it that way. And the flavor and texture was merely astonishing. I used "Nuptials Cake Frosting" as some other reviewer suggested, and the match was absolutely perfect. My wife loved information technology!
08/27/2010
This block has been a total thwarting. This is my commencement fourth dimension making it and information technology totally crumbled. I don't even have a cake. I fabricated it for my daughter's B-Twenty-four hours. The sense of taste is really expert, but no manner can information technology be fabricated into a cake. I volition need to skip on this cake since I take no idea how to even set it.
04/xviii/2003
The cake tastes like plain muffin. No taste at all. Non recommended for birthday party the guests will exist disapointed.I will non bake it once again.
04/02/2005
This was kind of a weird recipe. It wasn't really what I was looking for. It wasn't as well sweet, and it was very dense. It is probably a cracking block for a strawberry shortcake dessert, merely I am non certain about a birthday cake. Of course, I couldn't employ this equally the altogether cake that I was blistering for my best friend, because I dropped one-half of it on the floor when I turned it out of its pan. I guess information technology was a skillful matter that happened, because I was able to become for another yellow block recipe that was more of what I was looking for.
02/01/2006
This cake was not expert. It had a flour gustation and fifty-fifty my kids would not consume it.I followed the directions to a T and I was very dissappointed. I am so glad I tried it earlier serving it every bit my sons altogether cake
11/03/2000
Bully. Uesed a 9x13 pan. Didn't take regular butter, used unsalted butter. I am not good at whipping egg whites so I added the eggs whole. I would make this recipe over again.
03/11/2012
This has become my get-to block recipe. I get rave reviews every time I make it. Thanks for sharing this nifty recipe!
07/30/2007
Dense but very flavorful and worked well.
03/xix/2017
Made with no changes. Turned out very heavy and dry out and pretty irksome season. I probably should have sifted all the flour so that'due south probably on me. Would not risk making again though. : (
12/31/2011
Information technology was just ok, more like angle nutrient cake. I used bakers saccharide and cake flour in hopes of a lite and fluffy cake. I did not want a dumbo block like others spoke of- No luck.
04/08/2005
This is very similar to a pound cake recipe. Firm, slices great without aging. I made double the recipe and used the other rounds for strawberry short cake.
06/25/2018
It was alright for my first attempt at a scratch block merely it was dry and didn't take much flavour. It wasn't yellow at all only looked white. I think I might effort another recipe.
05/18/2012
Baked this twice and it was denser than I thought. I didn't separate the eggs the second time but got similar results. I would add together more than vanilla extract (maybe a tablespoon) for more flavor. However it pairs nicely with light whipped cream and some berries :)
12/31/2010
Cake turned out perfect, dense and delicious! Followed the recipe exactly, however I did have to bake a 9x13 pan for almost l minutes before it was done, I recall the smaller pans would cook faster.
03/xxx/2017
I was looking for a block for my son'south birthday party. I chose to follow the instructions to the letter rather than brand any adjustments I read about in the reviews. It came out perfect! The texture was at commencement like a cross betwixt an angel food cake and a pound cake. After sitting a twenty-four hour period it settled to the exact texture of birthday block. It's moist and study, rich in season not too sweetness. I made a cream cheese frosting to go with it and it paired perfectly. I did have to bake it almost twice every bit long, I recollect it's supposed to go in a half sheet pan, I simply had a 9x13. Unfortunately I am non up to the job of making plenty block for 30+people, then we will buy a pre-fabricated (I'm non however a skilled decorator either!) but this will be my birthday cake recipe from now on! I will exist passing this on to my children's children!

This was a adept tasting cake, just much too sugariness and heavy for my tastes. I was really looking for a light and fluffy cake recipe.

So skilful! Not often that a layer cake gets eaten and has ppl well-nigh fighting for more. Non dessert eaters also eating two pieces says a LOT. I volition make this again!!! I used the whipped cream frosting on this site.

I fabricated this for my daughters birthday and used a white frosting with some white chocolate chips and strawberries mixed in. It was more the texture of pound block, I thought that sounded yummy, simply it was the texture of pound cake with out the flavor of block. I retrieve this would make keen strawberry shortcake!
