Notes & Trivia

  • Baker has stated she is not Catholic. However she has not stated her religious views. (Leap of Faith)
  • Baker has at least two children with her husband, Brian Baker, as she was pregnant in Mother's Day, and the latter half of season seven.
  • Baker is seen speaking fluent Japanese to visiting dignitaries in Moonlighting.
  • Baker is usually on the sidelines in most episodes, only contributing news and information with other forms of conversation.  However there are certain episodes (frequently in season 8) where Baker is seen taking a prominent and leading role, similar to Baez.

Melissa or Abigail?

  • In Season One at the end, credits have her credited as Detective Melissa Baker (Abigail Hawk).
  • In Thanksgiving,  Mayor Poole states "Thank you, Abigail." when she holds the Commissioner's office door open for Mayor Poole. This may indicate a canon name change, or since the actress' name is Abigail, a mistake not caught in editing.
  • In Loss of Faith, Francis Reagan states, "Goodnight, Abigail."  In Manhattan Queens, Francis Reagan refers to her as "Detective Abigail Baker" multiple times.
  • Baker was never referred to as Melissa in any episode. While it may have been the writer's intention to use the name Melissa in Season One, canon is now Detective Abigail Baker.
